Fireground Rehab And Box 54
Fireground rehab is the term used in the emergency services for the care given to the emergency workers while performing their duties at an emergency scene. Box 54 has been providing this service since 1952 with major changes over the past few years. Rehab has become a necessary requirement for the emergency services workers of today.
Fireground rehab has become more and more of a demand as a result of newer and heavier fire protection equipment worn by the fire- fighter. It takes a toll on the human bodies chemistry. For the firefighter wearing all this equipment and then entering into a burning building where the temperatures can reach numerous proportions, the bodies only defense is to try and cool itself by sweating. Unfortunately while the firefighter is sweating he is also loosing valuable fluids which can cause dehydration at a rapid pace.
This is were Box 54 comes in. By setting up a rehab staging area for the firefighters, They can be met by trained EMT's from your local first aid squads and the trained staff of Box 54. The primary objective is to replenish lost bodily fluids and nourishment along with having their vital signs checked and recorded of the firefighters condition which is done by your local first aid squads.
All Box 54 members have been fully trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of fatigue by taking a Fireground Rehab Course.
